La Goutte d’Or is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Paris, with an unemployment rate of 23%. Women living there are often victims of violence and gender-based discrimination.
The Espoir Goutte d’Or association works with socially marginalised men and women aged between 20 and 45, from diverse backgrounds. 90% of these women are unemployed, and 50% of them live, often alone, in unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions. Some face legal issues, have previously been imprisoned, and all experience precarious health situations.
The project, specifically designed for the women supported by the association, aims to initiate a process of social inclusion as a first step towards professional integration. It includes theatre and language expression workshops, designed as spaces for understanding and dialogue between women and men. These workshops enable people experiencing severe social exclusion to acquire essential skills and knowledge needed for professional reintegration.
The writing workshops include a learning component (literacy, reading and writing), as well as a creative component focused on developing texts related to gender relations and social integration. The work produced individually and collectively is published.
The theatre workshop aims to create and perform a show during the neighbourhood festival and World AIDS Day, helping to provide a different perspective on a group of people often facing stigma. Theatre and museum outings are also organised, along with individual monthly follow-up support for beneficiaries.
