Project presentation

Boulmiougou is located on the outskirts of Ouagadougou. This district has a high concentration of disadvantaged populations from diverse backgrounds. The main economic activities developed there are agriculture, livestock farming and small-scale trade.

The Djigui Seme women’s group was created in 2003. It brings together 700 women, mainly young widows or divorced women who are socially isolated. The group promotes women’s socio-economic integration, particularly through the development of income-generating activities such as food production and the processing of basic products.

The project consists of creating a sustainable economic activity through the establishment of a unit producing soaps and other products made from shea butter. Its innovative aspect lies in the professionalisation of an activity that is usually carried out on an artisanal scale and with lower-quality production methods.

The project has three main components: the construction of the production site, the provision of modern equipment and machinery (crusher, roaster, mill and churn), and the training of women.

The production and storage facilities were built on land acquired by the group in 2006. A local consultant trained 50 women in processing techniques, the use and maintenance of equipment, as well as the management of production activities. The manufacturing and sale of products have since been independently managed by the women’s group.
