In the remote Matam region of Senegal, women carry out most agricultural activities but face significant challenges in accessing resources, production tools and adapting to climate-related constraints.
Since 2008, Livestock Without Borders (Élevages Sans Frontières) has supported women in developing sustainable and profitable livestock farming activities. To help them start their businesses, each participant receives one or two goats and is trained in agroecological livestock farming and market gardening techniques.
Combining these complementary activities improves productivity by using plant waste as animal feed and recycling animal manure into compost. The project also strengthens women’s groups, enabling them to become more autonomous and better organized.
