Project presentation

The association Métissage established a vocational training and immersion centre in Zagtouli, in the district of Boulmiougou, Burkina Faso. The centre includes workshops in weaving, dyeing, sewing and computer skills, providing participants with the knowledge and practical experience needed to enter the workforce, particularly through the creation of their own businesses.

As part of this initiative, the association created a new shea butter processing workshop. In many parts of Africa, women are primarily responsible for agro-food processing activities, which are traditionally carried out manually using basic equipment.

The project involved constructing a dedicated building for the workshop, equipping it with essential processing tools—including shea mills, crushers, kernel presses and cooking pots—and establishing a revolving fund to purchase raw materials.

The introduction of mechanical equipment significantly improves women's working conditions while transforming traditional production into a sustainable income-generating activity. Participants receive training to produce large quantities of high-quality shea butter and shea butter soap from shea kernels. Each woman is then able to sell her products within her local community and across the country, helping to strengthen her economic independence.
