In Saint-Louis, Senegal, women fish processors use cooking stoves that consume large amounts of wood. As no waste treatment system is in place, the waste generated by their activity, mainly organic waste, is discharged into the Saint-Louis River.
To address these women’s energy needs while reducing the pollution caused by their activities, Le Partenariat launched a pilot project to provide women with biogas production units.
These units make it possible to use organic waste as fuel instead of dumping it into the river, while also providing energy for cooking fish. The project also includes training women leaders to promote the use of biogas among other women fish processors.
