In Togo, most traditional cooking stoves used by households are highly inefficient. They consume large amounts of wood and release harmful smoke that affects both the environment and users’ health, particularly women. At the same time, fewer than 30% of the population has access to electricity, with women being among those most affected by energy poverty.
To address this challenge, Entrepreneurs du Monde launched the Mivo project to make clean, modern and affordable cooking and lighting solutions accessible to the most vulnerable women. These products are distributed at low cost through a network of local female retailers who receive training and individual support to manage their businesses. Their close relationship with users helps promote and facilitate the adoption of these sustainable solutions.
