Project presentation
In the municipality of Kpomassè, located near Lake Ahémé in Benin, the overexploitation of the lake and the intensive practice of acadja — a traditional fishing method that leads to massive forest clearing — threaten biodiversity and the natural resources on which local communities depend. Since 2014, Association Humanitaire Pour l’Afrique and its local partner, the Cercle de Recherches pour l’Identification et la Promotion des Alternatives du Développement Durable (CRIPADD), have been implementing a development project focused on the sustainable economic reconversion of this area affected by poverty and rural exodus.
The project aims to establish an integrated agricultural system combining goat farming and agroecological market gardening for 37 women from the Hountoun, Houedjro and Kpago groups. It also raises awareness among local residents and community leaders in Kpomassè about agroecology through the production of a short film and the regular organisation of visits to production sites for the region’s population.
This project will enable women from these groups to sustain and diversify their sources of income, while also strengthening their financial independence and the recognition of their responsibilities within their communities.
