Project presentation
In Mali, where 79% of the working population depends on agriculture, climate change is threatening the population’s food security. This situation is particularly critical for women, who represent more than 49% of the agricultural workforce and 80% of market gardeners, but have little or no access to resources (less than 1% of land and credit access).
To improve the living conditions of women in the village of Mékoungo, located in the Koulikoro region, Partenariat Nord Sud Bourgogne Mali set up a vegetable garden in 2017, supplied with water by a solar-powered pump, established a production and processing platform for shea butter and dried fruits, and trained women from the central cooperative in agroecology.
Building on the success of this first phase, the association will replicate this project in four other hamlets of Mékoungo village (Farada, Sidjandkoro, Ntenekabougou and Tourabougou), benefiting 250 female market gardeners organised into a cooperative. This project will enable the women supported to achieve better yields on their plots, while improving their nutrition and living conditions.
