Implemented in Bir Salah and Fatnassa, Tunisia, this project addresses two major challenges for the country’s rural development: the economic vulnerability of women working mainly in agriculture and the ongoing desertification of agricultural land.
Since 2016, W4 and its local partner “Dream in Tunisia” have trained 40 women in agroecology, enabling them to generate income through the cultivation, harvesting and marketing of new environmentally friendly crops, as well as through the creation and organization of cooperatives.
In addition, an online training programme on sustainable agriculture and women’s entrepreneurship is being developed. It includes educational videos on seed management, water-efficient irrigation systems, product marketing, cooperative creation, land rights and other topics. The programme targets women in the Sahel region who wish to adopt responsible agricultural practices.
W4 is also leading the #1MillionTrees4Tunisia sustainable agriculture awareness campaign in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, aiming to raise public awareness of environmental challenges.
