Project presentation
In Burkina Faso, the taboo surrounding menstruation hinders the social and professional empowerment of girls and women, who are often considered impure during this period. In this context, the organization Movement France aims to provide a sustainable solution through the project “P3 Protect Paga Period”: a workshop producing washable sanitary pad kits made by women living in precarious conditions.
These women receive five months of sewing training, along with support in learning accounting, raw materials and inventory management, and marketing techniques.
The development of a hygienic, affordable, and sustainable solution will have multiple positive impacts: reducing absenteeism at school and work, lowering the risk of infections linked to poor hygiene or the use of traditional alternatives (such as newspaper, mud, or cloth), and improving the overall living conditions of girls and women, thereby fostering their social and professional empowerment.
