Promoting the Economic Empowerment of Kichwa Women through Sustainable Agroforestry

Projet soutenu Project supported in 2025: Women & Environment

Project presentation

In the Ecuadorian Amazon, Kichwa women face intense environmental and social pressures linked to deforestation, oil exploitation and rural exodus. Often isolated, they are required to provide for their families on their own.

The organisation Ishpingo supports these women in developing sustainable agroforestry activities on their land, located opposite a large wildlife sanctuary. The project aims to improve their living conditions by increasing and diversifying fruit production, part of which is used to feed the animals housed in the sanctuary.

Women receive training in nursery management and agroforestry techniques, while also taking part in reforestation initiatives and environmental awareness activities for children. The project strengthens their economic autonomy and their role within the community, while contributing to the preservation of the Amazon rainforest.
