Project presentation

By 2030, a part of France’s agricultural ecosystem will disappear, as half of the country’s farmers will retire without guaranteed succession for their farms or the transfer of their knowledge. People who are not from the agricultural world but wish to become farmers face many challenges—especially women—due to a certain conservatism in the sector that grants little legitimacy to women farm owners. Yet, more and more women are choosing this path and are particularly important in promoting sustainable alternative models that protect the environment.

To address this issue, the association SOL offers support to women from non-agricultural backgrounds in developing their farm establishment projects. These women receive comprehensive training and gain skills in agricultural practices, economic management of their farm, and environmental knowledge.

The association

For 40 years, SOL has aimed to contribute, in a spirit of true solidarity, to meeting the essential needs of peasant farmers and valuing their role in society. The initiative is based on the recognition of a necessary transition toward more sustainable societies through peasant agroecology, the protection of natural resources, and biodiversity conservation.
