Creation of a Safety System for Young Women at LAO POW’Her

Creation of a Safety System for Young Women at LAO POW’Her

Projet soutenu Project supported in 2025 and 2026 : Empowering Women

Project presentation

Faced with widespread exposure of adolescents and young women to gender-based and sexual violence, Pow’Her strengthens its action in Bagnolet by reactivating an emergency shelter for young women aged 18–25. This project responds to a critical need: 70% of the victims accompanied by the association request emergency shelter, while public facilities are saturated.

The six emergency shelter places provide a three-week protective buffer, complemented by comprehensive support through the Reception and Orientation Center (LAO): educational follow-up, psychological support, legal information, workshops on affective and sexual life, and personal/professional empowerment activities. The goal is to ensure immediate safety while initiating a reconstruction and empowerment pathway.

Pow’Her
The association

Founded in 2019 at the request of public authorities, LAO Pow’Her specifically supports young women aged 15–25 who are victims of gender-based and sexual violence. Initially run by FIT – Une Femme, Un Toit, it became an independent association in 2025. Located in Bagnolet, the LAO offers multidisciplinary support provided by nine specialized professionals—educators, lawyers, psychologists, psychiatrist, marriage counselor, and gynecologist. It plans to expand to Nantes and develop an Observatory of Violence Against Young Women and a federation of LAOs.
