Project presentation

In France, women represent only one quarter of farm managers and remain largely invisible within the agricultural sector. In response to discrimination and structural barriers—including access to land, training, and work-life balance—the CIVAM Network and FADEAR have joined forces to better recognize and promote women’s contributions to the agroecological transition.

The project aims to strengthen women-only farmer groups, encourage the sharing of experiences and tools between networks, and raise awareness of gender equality within agricultural education institutions. Through the creation of a toolbox, dedicated training sessions, and peer exchange days, the initiative seeks to consolidate women’s place in agriculture and support their agency in a sector undergoing profound transformation.

The association

The CIVAM Network (Centers for Initiatives to Promote Agriculture and Rural Areas) and FADEAR (Federation for the Development of Agricultural and Rural Employment) bring together actors committed to sustainable, local, and solidarity-based agriculture. Together, they support farmers in agroecological transitions and promote gender equality in rural territories. With respective budgets of €2.1M and €1M in 2024, the two networks have been collaborating on gender issues since 2019 and continue their shared commitment to making agriculture more inclusive and equitable.
