Project presentation
In March 2022, during a mission in Peru, the association Emanik was approached by a group of 30 women from the “El Nuevo Amanecer” neighborhood in Lima who wished to learn a trade while contributing to their community. This neighborhood of 600 people has no running water, paved roads, or green spaces, and the women already engage in preparing meals for the most vulnerable through the local program El Vaso de Leche Mana.
Emanik designed a two-year certified training program in construction, covering masonry, plumbing, electricity, and building techniques. The practical component of the program involves constructing a community center on land provided by the local neighborhood committee, which will bring running water, sanitation, and a space for cultural, educational, and community activities.
Women also benefit from weekly psycho-social support, including individual and group sessions with a psychologist, as well as workshops on women’s rights, self-esteem, sexual and maternal health, nutrition, hygiene, and gender equality. The project adapts schedules to accommodate school hours and childcare responsibilities.
The program fosters leadership, professional skills, and community empowerment, with the trained women becoming central actors in developing and managing the community center. Emanik ensures weekly monitoring of training progress and construction, maintaining a strong link with the participants.
