Project presentation
In the Île-de-France region, women living in Priority Urban Neighborhoods (QPV) are particularly affected by precarious living conditions. 23% of them are unemployed, compared with 9.5% in other neighborhoods. Women often hold precarious jobs, and 40% had to stop their paid work during the lockdowns. Gender inequalities persist and are further reinforced by double discrimination based on their real or perceived origin. They also face many social challenges that hinder their empowerment: self-censorship, a heavy mental load, limited access to sports and dedicated infrastructures, insecurity, and more.
In response to this situation, Sarah Ourahmoune, a French boxer and multiple medalist, and founder of the Boxer Inside Club, opened a boxing gym and developed the 100% female program “Les Puncheuses”, dedicated to women living in QPV neighborhoods in Aulnay-sous-Bois and surrounding municipalities. This program, both individual and collective, combines sports practice, empowerment, and professional integration. Its aim is to re-engage women and remove the barriers to their emancipation.
