Project presentation

Atacora, in Benin, is a rural department where the population is particularly poor and vulnerable. Agricultural activities are largely carried out by women, who process fruits and vegetables into marketable products such as cassava flour, maize flour, dried mango, and processed soybeans. However, processing techniques are often inefficient, leading to significant production losses.

The region is also facing severe deforestation, which disproportionately affects women. They are responsible for collecting firewood and must walk many kilometers each week to gather it. The cooking equipment used in households and for income-generating activities consumes large amounts of wood and is harmful to women’s health. As wood resources continue to decline, women are forced to travel even further to collect it.

Inti Energies Solidaires aims to provide concrete and eco-responsible solutions to women in Atacora to support their adaptation to climate change and improve their living conditions. With the support of the local association Eco-Bénin, the organization will develop and promote an ecological cooking solution for women and their families. In partnership with the Réseau des Jeunes pour l’Économie Verte, it will also work with women’s groups to help optimize their processing activities.

Inti Energies Solidaires will itself be supported by the French organization Groupement d’Appui et de Solidarité to ensure better integration of gender considerations throughout the entire project lifecycle.
