Project presented by WECF France
In Colombia, thousands of women from poor rural backgrounds work in waste collection, a sector that plays a key role in the ecological transition. Despite their major contribution to waste collection, sorting and recovery, they continue to face precarious working conditions, a lack of social protection and limited recognition.
To address these challenges, WECF France, in partnership with Enda Colombia, supports waste-picker women’s associations in their formalization and professionalization through training on governance, health and safety, gender-based violence prevention and access to public policies. This approach enables women to strengthen their skills, increase their capacity to act and have their role as key actors in the ecological transition recognized.
Use of the prize:
The prize will enable the continuation of support for waste-picker women’s associations, the strengthening of a network of women leaders, the promotion of their formalization and the development of advocacy and awareness-raising actions to highlight their essential contribution to environmental protection.
