Project presentation
In 2006, the association Toutes à l’école founded a school for young girls from the poorest families in Cambodia. A private institution under contract, the Happy Chandara School currently welcomes 1,300 girls and offers them, in addition to the official Khmer curriculum, complementary courses (English, computer science, French, art, etc.) as well as comprehensive support including education, food, medical care, social and psychological support, and for some students, accommodation.
In order to support families who can no longer rely on the income generated by their child’s work, the school provides them with weekly food baskets and offers them access to the medical and social services provided by the school. In response to climate disruption, which particularly affects Cambodia and of which women are the first victims, the association has launched the program “Educating Girls Also Means Saving the Climate” to train them in environmental protection through workshops, local initiatives, and classes. Beyond this high-quality training, the program aims to raise awareness over the long term. It provides practical solutions for the girls and their communities to contribute to environmental protection and to adapt to global warming.
