Project presentation

Every year worldwide, nearly one third of food produced for human consumption is wasted, and each week in the Île-de-France region, 200 tons of fruits and vegetables are discarded, largely due to extremely long distribution channels.

In response to this issue, the association Re-Belle has been working since 2017 to combat food waste by upcycling unsold fruits and vegetables from the Île-de-France area, transforming them into artisanal jams. This activity is carried out by unemployed women from priority neighborhoods within a work integration workshop located in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis). These women receive socio-professional support to help them prepare for long-term employment.

Today, the association is working to strengthen its model—by increasing production and sales, creating additional jobs, and developing awareness-raising initiatives around sustainable food—in order to scale up its impact starting in 2020.
