Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before submitting a project.
The Foundation proposes six funding programs to meet different needs, in France and internationally.
Two major calls for projects are planned each year:
- Empowering Women: covering all four areas of action
- Women & the Environment: specifically focusing on women’s action towards the environment
Very small associations, led and/or founded by women and operating in France, can apply to our feminist funds:
The Foundation also has:
- an Emergency Fund for projects providing immediate assistance to women and/or girls who are victims of humanitarian, political, or ecological crises;
- a program For Feminist Advocacy that supports advocacy actions carried out by associations aimed at raising public and political awareness of women’s rights.
For your grant application to be considered by the Foundation:
- The project must be led by a French non-profit organization (association loi 1901) that is actively involved in France (the French administrative offices of foreign associations are not eligible), unless an express exemption is obtained from the Foundation prior to submitting the project. Projects supported abroad are generally led by a French association in partnership with a local organization; direct funding of foreign associations remains exceptional.
- The project must specifically target women and/or girls, contributing to their empowerment, improving their living conditions, and promoting equal rights.
- The project must fall within one of the Foundation’s four areas of action.

The Foundation does not award grants for:
- Construction projects,
- Travel grants (research, participation in an event),
- Socio-aesthetic workshops,
- Projects aimed at perpetrators of violence,
- Artistic projects.
Furthermore,
- Only one funding application may be submitted per organization per year (excluding Foundation awards). An association that has already received support may not submit a new application while its project is still ongoing.
- A project that has been rejected may not be resubmitted in identical form.
- For calls for projects under the Empowering Women and Women & Environment programs, the average amount awarded is €15,000. See the terms and conditions of the various funding programs for more information.
- The Foundation can fund projects lasting between 1 and 3 years.
- Funding may support a specific project or contribute to the association’s operating costs (particularly human resources expenses).
Project selection takes place in five stages:
1. Eligibility check: project leaders are invited to check the eligibility of their project by consulting the eligibility criteria of the funding program.
2. Submission of a grant application form: associations are invited to complete an online grant application form, which is only accessible when a call for projects is open.
3. Selection of projects for the assessment phase: based on these applications, the Foundation’s team conducts an initial analysis to identify projects that are eligible and correspond to the Foundation’s priorities. The selected associations then have one month to submit a more detailed application. Once these have been received, a second selection is made.
4. Assessment: the operational team meets with all the selected associations to evaluate the project and ensure the association’s soundness.
5. Presentation to the Executive Committee: projects that have passed the review stage are then presented to the Executive Committee of the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation, which will decide on the funding to be granted by the Foundation.
To receive funding from the Emergency Fund:
- The project must provide immediate assistance to women and/or girls affected by a humanitarian, political, or environmental crisis.
- The project must be led by a French non-profit organization (association loi 1901)
