Project presentation
Elevages Sans Frontières operates in the Ouarzazate region of Morocco, supporting 148 vulnerable rural women. This remote area is marked by poverty and is affected by a crisis in the oasis system due to climate change, leading to loss of arable land and decreased income.
While male rural exodus is significant, young women have limited ability to leave due to the patriarchal structure of society. Mostly illiterate, women are particularly exposed to poverty.
The project aims to improve the goat and sheep farming skills of 102 women to enhance their economic autonomy. It focuses on training women as livestock breeders, supporting their collective organisation and formation of cooperatives, and increasing visibility of the project to strengthen local initiatives. Additionally, 34 already-established women breeders will act as mentors to the 102 new beneficiaries, and 12 rural women will learn basic veterinary care.
