Projet soutenu Project supported in 2025 : Empowering Women

Project presentation

After two years of a devastating conflict in Tigray, marked by the widespread use of rape as a weapon of war, thousands of women remain traumatized, isolated, and without resources. To support them in rebuilding their lives, Stand Speak Rise Up, in partnership with Hiwyet Charity Association, is implementing a socio-economic reintegration project combining psychological, legal, and professional support.

Three hundred survivors of sexual violence will receive training in tailoring or sustainable agriculture and be supported in the creation of local cooperatives. The project aims to restore autonomy, dignity, and social inclusion, while promoting environmentally responsible practices and raising community awareness on the fight against gender-based violence.

Stand Speak Rise Up (SSRU)
The association

Founded in 2019 following the international Stand Speak Rise Up Forum held in Luxembourg under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, the association works to denounce rape as a weapon of war and to support survivors in their recovery and pursuit of justice. Active in 13 countries, SSRU supports women survivors locally through empowerment, training, and advocacy projects. In Tigray, it has been working since 2023 with Hiwyet Charity Association, a local organization founded by a Tigrayan activist, to develop sustainable reintegration and empowerment solutions for survivors of sexual violence.
