Project presentation
Within the highly patriarchal Chepang community—one of Nepal’s most disadvantaged ethnic minorities—women and girls are exposed to discrimination and violence. Living in extremely remote areas, with journeys of up to seven hours on foot to reach a secondary school, girls are often forced to drop out of school at an early age and are subsequently married.
In order to welcome and educate Chepang girls, Planète Enfants & Développement began building a new residential hostel in 2020 on land donated by the local community.
The project aims to promote access to secondary education, personal development and social empowerment for Chepang girls in Gajuri, in the Dhading district. Each year, the project provides safe and decent accommodation for 35 Chepang girls aged 11 to 18, enabling them to complete their schooling in an environment conducive to their overall development.
