Project presentation
On Tunisia’s Kerkennah Islands, women play a vital role in small-scale fisheries, a sector that remains largely male-dominated. Although they are active across the entire value chain—from net-making to the processing of seafood products—they remain largely invisible and excluded from decision-making spaces.
To help address this situation, AKDDCL supports a group of 15 women in structuring their activities and strengthening their economic autonomy. Through practical training, support in accessing microcredit, the development of short supply chains, and work on leadership and public speaking, the project seeks to enhance recognition of women’s role in local fisheries and enable them to fully participate in the governance of the Marine and Coastal Protected Area.
This ambitious initiative contributes to a sustainable and inclusive social transformation across the archipelago.
