Project presentation

In France, more than 100 waiting zones receive each year foreign individuals who are denied entry to the territory. These detention facilities, often opaque and unsuitable, particularly expose women to violations of their rights and to degrading conditions. Since 2019, Anafé has been working to ensure the defense of and access to rights for women held in these zones, notably at Roissy and Orly. The project includes legal counseling sessions, personalized support, training for field actors, as well as advocacy work based on the collection of data and testimonies. The goal is to recognize and protect the fundamental rights of foreign women held in these spaces of deprivation of liberty.

The association

National Association for Assistance to Foreigners at the Borders (Anafé) has been working for 35 years to defend the fundamental rights of foreigners at the borders. It is the only association with permanent access to the Roissy waiting zone, thanks to an agreement with the Ministry of the Interior, and it coordinates a network of 21 member associations and unions. Its team of five staff members relies on over 100 trained volunteers to carry out legal assistance, monitoring, and advocacy missions. Anafé is also recognized as a key actor in the training of lawyers and legal practitioners, and continues its commitment in the face of increasingly strict migration policies within an increasingly restrictive European context.
