Project presentation

In 2021, reports of domestic violence increased by 21% in Marseille. Solidarité Femmes 13, a women’s rights organization operating in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, provides comprehensive support to women survivors of violence and their children, including social, legal, psychological and housing assistance, as well as therapeutic activities.

At the request of beneficiaries, the organization launched the Quadrathlon programme in 2021 — a sports-based support pathway complementing existing services. Developed in partnership with the Union nationale des Centres sportifs de Plein Air (UCPA) and Marseille Solutions, the programme uses sport as a tool for physical and emotional recovery, helping women reconnect with their bodies, rebuild self-confidence and support professional reintegration after experiences of domestic or sexual violence.

Following the success of its first edition, which supported 31 women through activities including sailing, combat sports, horse riding and fitness, the programme is being renewed in Marseille and expanded to the city of Istres. The project received the National Social and Solidarity Economy Award in 2021.

Participants follow an eight-month programme combining weekly sports sessions with workshops introducing careers in the sports sector through training centre visits and meetings with professionals. All instructors are trained to work with survivors of violence, and association staff provide continuous support throughout the programme.
