Project presentation
Africa is one of the continents most affected by climate disruption. Deforestation caused by the overexploitation of timber poses a serious threat to the continent’s biodiversity, with women being among the first to suffer the consequences of climate change.
Located in the heart of Conakry, Guinea, the Camayenne Botanical Garden is considered the city’s green lung. Spanning eight hectares, it is home to rare and endangered tree and plant species. Increasing pressure from the surrounding urban environment—including tree felling, construction and a lack of recognition of this natural heritage—has made the garden increasingly vulnerable.
In response, Women of Africa has launched a project to restore and preserve the garden’s biodiversity while creating employment opportunities for women. The restoration of the Camayenne Botanical Garden by a group of women will make it possible to plant an additional 1,000 trees and plant species.
