Making Women of the Resistance and Liberation Visible
Inaugurated in 2025 at the Assemblée nationale, the exhibition Resistant Women and Fighters: From Shadows to Light (1945–2025/2026) pays tribute to the decisive role of women in the Resistance and the struggles for Liberation. The inauguration was attended by Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the Assemblée nationale, and Aurore Bergé, Delegate Minister in charge of Gender Equality and the Fight Against Discrimination, highlighting the exhibition’s memorial, republican, and contemporary significance.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of women’s first vote in 1945, the exhibition showcases over 150 stories of female resistors, fighters, and pioneering elected officials of the Republic. From liaison agents and network leaders to combatants, nurses, and political figures, these women risked everything to defend freedom, often without recognition proportionate to their commitment.
Designed as a public and educational exhibition, Resistant Women and Fighters offers a structured journey through thematic panels, combining individual stories with collective history. It emphasizes how women’s attainment of political citizenship is inseparable from their engagement in the Resistance and their active participation in France’s democratic reconstruction.
By financially supporting this exhibition, the Fondation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici reaffirms its commitment to preserving memory, recognizing women’s historical contributions, and defending the values of equality and democracy.
