Project presentation
From October 4 to 6, 2024, the International Foundation Women Without Violence (WWVIF) and the Pangea Onlus Foundation, with the support of the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation, organized an international conference in Matera alongside the G7. This meeting aimed to denounce and eradicate sexual violence and femicide affecting women worldwide.
During these three days of exchanges, experts from diverse regions – India, Pakistan, South America, Iraq, Poland, France, and Italy – conducted in-depth analyses of the effectiveness of laws, public policies, and international conventions aimed at combating these crimes. Key topics included:
-
The notion of consent,
-
Gender apartheid,
-
Persistent obstacles to justice, which allow perpetrators of these crimes to remain unpunished.
Beyond these alarming findings, the conference allowed for concrete recommendations to be formulated, in the hope of ending the persistence and impunity of such crimes globally. This joint declaration, signed by all attending NGOs, associations, and prominent figures, is a solemn call for action and responsibility from governments and international organizations, particularly the United Nations. It represents a collective commitment to pursue and intensify the fight against sexual violence and femicide within a coordinated and ambitious framework.
Through this declaration, the signatories underscore the urgent need to strengthen legislative and policy frameworks, ensure rigorous enforcement of existing laws, and develop effective mechanisms for prevention and justice.
