In Niger, one of the poorest countries in the world, 73% of people living below the poverty line are women. For those living in rural areas, vulnerability is even more acute. Nigerien women face severe barriers to accessing economic rights and productive resources: only 13% of agricultural landowners are women. In addition, current farming practices have a negative impact on the environment, with 75% of women surveyed by Empow’Her reporting the use of unsustainable production methods.

Led by Empow’Her, the
PERENIA project supports and empowers women to develop sustainable agricultural practices, enabling them to become drivers of their own economic development while also contributing positively to efforts to combat climate change. The PERENIA project strengthens women’s integration and role within agricultural value chains and promotes recognition of the crucial role women play in agriculture.
