Project presentation
From April 19 to 21, 2024, the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation participated in the Empow’Her Festival, dedicated to the empowerment of women and the promotion of a more just and inclusive society. Sophie Pouget, the Foundation’s Executive Director, moderated a discussion on anti-rights movements, alongside Delphine O (Forum Génération Égalité), Sarah Durocher (Planning Familial), and Neil Datta (European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights).
These movements, historically funded by private fortunes and increasingly supported by public funds, seek to restrict sexual and reproductive rights on an international scale. They inspire each other and target parliaments, the United Nations, and other multilateral institutions to influence policy decisions.
In response to this threat, grassroots feminist organizations such as Planning Familial continue to protect women’s rights and educate young people about sexual and reproductive health, despite attacks and disinformation campaigns by anti-rights movements.
To counter these groups, the speakers made several recommendations:
-
At the international level: promote feminist diplomacy, increase funding for feminist organizations, and identify and anticipate anti-rights lobbies.
-
For associations: raise awareness among policymakers, media, and citizens, and combat disinformation.
-
Global strategy (Neil Datta): research, inform, relocate anti-rights lobbies, defund them, and defend frontline actors.
This participation highlights the commitment of the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation to defending women’s rights and fighting anti-rights movements worldwide.
