L’Auberge Marseillaise: A Participatory Living Space for Women and Children in Extreme Precarity

Projet soutenu Project supported in 2025 : Empowering Women

Project presentation

In response to the structural shortage of shelter spaces in Marseille, Yes We Camp created L’Auberge Marseillaise, an innovative reception center for homeless women, women in extreme precariousness, and survivors of violence. Located in a renovated former youth hostel, the project provides a safe and participatory environment combining emergency shelter, social and medical support, collective activities, and shared governance.

Each woman, whether alone or with children, receives individualized support to rebuild her health, regain access to her rights, and strengthen her autonomy. Daily life is shaped by shared meals, discussion spaces, educational activities, and collective projects open to the neighborhood, fostering solidarity and empowerment.
