Project presentation
The fight against violence targeting women with disabilities still lacks visibility, and few resources have been put in place to address it. Yet, disability is a factor that increases women’s exposure to violence, particularly psychological abuse committed by those close to them.
Founded in 2003, the association Femmes pour le Dire, Femmes pour Agir (FDFA) works to promote social recognition of women with disabilities and to combat the double discrimination they face. Listening to women with disabilities who are victims of violence (WDVV) is a crucial step to help them and support their démarches. A national hotline (01 40 47 06 06) was launched in March 2015 by FDFA, and the number of calls has steadily increased since then (580 calls in 2015, over 2,000 in 2018). Women are informed about this hotline through FDFA’s communication efforts, including its listing on resource websites.
In 2022, the association continued developing its activities to strengthen support for WDVV. It plans to recruit 4 additional listeners to open a hotline during evenings or weekends. The association is also working on creating a software system to track calls, accessible to all people with disabilities.
Furthermore, the association aims to enhance the educational tools used in its awareness-raising sessions. It plans to develop interactive and playful games addressing economic and institutional violence experienced by women with disabilities, inspired by the “Monopoly-style” game La Bonne Paye. Additionally, FDFA intends to become a certified training organization by 2023 through obtaining the Qualiopi certification.
