Project presentation
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Poland has welcomed more than 1.5 million refugees, the majority of whom are women and children. In a context marked by a housing crisis and high inflation, many refugee women are now living in severe economic precarity, limiting their access to essential hygiene products.
Menstrual poverty represents a major barrier to their health, dignity, and social and professional inclusion. For women with children or those living far from major urban centres, the regular purchase of menstrual products has become an unaffordable expense.
Action Menstruation Foundation implements a project aimed at sustainably improving the living conditions of vulnerable Ukrainian refugee women in Poland. The initiative provides reusable menstrual products — menstrual underwear, menstrual cups, or reusable pads — ensuring access to menstrual protection for several years.
In addition, sexual and reproductive health workshops are organised in Ukrainian across seven Polish cities. Led by sexual education professionals, these safe discussion spaces enable participants to access reliable information on menstruation, contraception, abortion, and their rights within a particularly restrictive national context.
The project therefore strengthens refugee women’s autonomy, health, and dignity while sustainably reducing their economic and social vulnerability.
