The project takes place in the Pu Luong Nature Reserve, located in a mountainous district in northern Vietnam, and targets women from the Thai and Muong ethnic minorities living within the reserve and in surrounding buffer zones. In this region, women are often among the poorest, with less access to land and economic opportunities than men.

Pu Luong, with its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes, is also a tourist destination. Community-based tourism offers women opportunities to increase their income and play a more significant role within their communities. In 2021, GRET launched a three-year project focused on three main activities:
- Supporting the development of a legal framework that allows women to participate actively in decision-making concerning the reserve and to have an equitable share in livelihood activities.
- Assisting women’s groups in providing sustainable tourism services, including homestays, mototaxi services, catering, and agricultural activities such as duck farming and vegetable cultivation.
- Promoting long-term changes in attitudes through awareness campaigns on gender equality, forest protection, and responsible tourism.
