Project presentation

The city of Grenoble, the prefecture of Isère, is seeing an increasing number of precarious migrants, including a significant proportion of women alone with their child(ren). In response to this situation and the growing impoverishment of the population it serves over the past 16 years, the association Femmes SDF, a specialist in the issue of women experiencing homelessness, aims to provide more comprehensive support to the women it has been welcoming since 2004 at the “Local des Femmes” (408 women and 219 children received in 2019, 70% of whom are migrants).

This project aims to continue the day center services offered by the association while consolidating new intervention areas to better meet the specific needs of migrant women in terms of access to rights and social integration. It plans to welcome 400 women (and children) three times per week, hold weekly appointments to support access to rights (health, employment, administrative difficulties, housing), and organize activities related to self-esteem and civic participation (writing workshops, film debates, discussion groups). Optional personal care services (hairdressing, beauty treatments) will also be offered to the women who wish to participate.

Femmes SDF
The association

The Femmes SDF association was founded in 2000 in order to increase the visibility, understand and analyse the situation of women living in the streets, and improve the response to their needs. Since the creation of the “Local des femmes” in 2004, the association offers a daytime hosting facility for wandering women and organises roundups during which duos comprising one social worker and one woman who has lived in the street, go out to meet homeless women in the city of Grenoble.
