Project presentation
The island of Sainte-Marie, located on the north-eastern coast of Madagascar, faces significant challenges in terms of youth integration: 70% of the population is under 35, and very few young people have reached a level of education equivalent to or higher than high school. Due to the lack of suitable educational structures, young women are often forced into precarious jobs, making them vulnerable to risks such as prostitution and/or early pregnancies.
The GREF project, carried out in collaboration with a local association (the Rassemblement des Femmes de l’Île de Sainte Marie), aims to support the professional integration of 150 young girls and young mothers. They will follow an intensive 5-week training program in hospitality and restaurant professions, developed in partnership with the island’s Tourism Office and the Delegation of the Ministry of Population. This will enable them to acquire skills adapted to the island’s economic needs, where tourism-related activities are the main source of income and require qualified labor.
