Project presentation
In Siem Reap, Cambodia, the booming tourism industry drives the city’s economic growth and attracts many rural families seeking opportunities to improve their living conditions. However, these families generally have low education levels and limited professional skills. Facing difficulties in accessing training centers or securing stable, well-paid employment, parents are often forced to send their children to work on the streets, exposing them to violence, drugs, and prostitution.
Established in Siem Reap since 2005, Friends International provides social reintegration services for vulnerable children and youth, including reception centers with psychological support and healthcare, schooling, and vocational training. Reintegration also depends on social and economic family stability. To address this need, in 2016 FI launched a pilot training restaurant project, “Let’s Eat”, aimed at single mothers to help them move toward employment.
In 2022, the Foundation was approached to help Friends International continue the Let’s Eat training program and thereby sustain its impact.
