Project presentation
In Jaipur, in the slums of Jawahar Nagar and Shastri Nagar, populations migrating from rural areas of Rajasthan—one of India’s poorest states—are concentrated. Rajasthan is particularly affected by high maternal mortality rates, early marriage and infant mortality, and has the highest proportion of large families in the country. These family and economic pressures, combined with the unhealthy living conditions in the slums, significantly limit women’s ability to act and make decisions.
ATIA has observed that women rarely participate in decisions affecting their lives, have low self-confidence, seldom leave their homes, and experience domestic violence in more than one-third of cases.

To strengthen women’s decision-making capacity and agency, ATIA provides weekly support sessions. This personalised accompaniment enables women to share their often difficult and stressful family situations, to be listened to, and to have their choices and achievements recognised. The project helps them rebuild confidence in their own resources, overcome feelings of powerlessness, and regain the ability to improve their living conditions.
