The RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation at CSW69: Amplifying Women’s Voices Where Their Rights Are at Stake

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the foremost global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women. Each year in March, representatives from Member States, international organizations, and civil society gather at UN Headquarters in New York to assess progress, debate current challenges, and develop policy recommendations advancing the rights of women and girls worldwide. At the sixty-ninth session (CSW69), Alexandra Dethyre, Deputy General Manager of the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation, traveled to New York to participate in the discussions and to voice the concerns and priorities of feminist organizations supported by the Foundation.

A Landmark Edition for Women’s Rights

Presided over by Saudi Arabia, this 2025 session marked the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) — a cornerstone text for women’s rights worldwide.

As the global community enters the final stretch toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the urgency is greater than ever: gender inequality persists and women’s rights are regressing in many parts of the world. In this context, CSW69 provided a vital space for dialogue, evaluation, and forward planning to strengthen international commitments and prevent setbacks.

The CSW: A Key UN Body

Established in 1946 by a resolution of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Commission on the Status of Women works to advance gender equality through public policy development and international standard-setting. Each year, it brings together ministers, senior officials, UN agencies, and civil society representatives in New York for two weeks of exchange and collaboration.

Among participants were Alexandra Dethyre (RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation), Françoise Brié (President of the International Foundation Women Without Violence – WWVIF), and Simona Lanzoni (Vice President of Fondazione Pangea).

The RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation’s Commitment

By taking part in CSW69, the Foundation:

  • Amplifies the voices of women it supports every day.

  • Highlights the work of partner organizations on the ground.

  • Reaffirms the urgency of collective action in the face of increasing attacks on women’s rights.

In an environment marked by the rise of anti-gender movements, the Foundation—together with its partners—stands firm in defending sexual and reproductive rights and in resisting all forms of rollback on women’s rights.
