The Fondation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici, part of the French delegation to CSW70, advocating for access to justice for all women and girls

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the world’s leading intergovernmental body dedicated to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. From 9 to 19 March 2026, its seventieth session brought together, at UN Headquarters in New York, representatives of Member States, UN agencies and civil society around a shared goal: advancing the rights of women and girls worldwide.

CSW70 opened in an international context marked by rising tensions, challenges to the rule of law and a shrinking democratic space. Around the world, the rights of women and girls are being openly violated, while inadequate justice systems struggle to protect them effectively. For the vast majority of women and girls, legal equality remains out of reach. According to the UN, they enjoy on average only 64% of the legal rights granted to men, with profound and lasting consequences throughout their lives.

In this context of regression and persistent violence, the participation of the Fondation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici in CSW70 serves as a reminder of the importance of collective, sustained and determined action to defend women’s rights, fundamental freedoms and equality between women and men.

Ensuring access to justice for all women and girls

CSW70’s priority theme, “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls,” places equality before the law and the effective exercise of rights at the heart of the discussions. This means, in particular, repealing discriminatory laws, promoting inclusive and fair justice systems, and removing the structural barriers that prevent women from asserting their rights, reporting violence and obtaining redress.

Inequality before the law takes many forms: the failure to recognise rape in certain legal systems, the absence of bans on forced marriage, persistent pay discrimination, and obstacles to property ownership, inheritance or divorce. Gender-based and sexual violence is also spreading into digital spaces, where manipulated sexual images, or deepfakes, targeting women and girls are on the rise, often with perpetrators enjoying near-total impunity. In the face of these realities, CSW70 affirms that justice is a key lever for advancing gender equality and ensuring that rights are meaningful for all.

Amplifying the voices of women and feminists within the French delegation

As a member of the French delegation to CSW70, the Fondation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici contributes to discussions and advocacy efforts in support of justice systems that are fairer, more accessible and truly protective of women and girls.

Alongside its partners and other feminist organisations, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to supporting women’s voices around the world, combating all forms of gender-based violence and opposing any rollback of rights.

Through its participation, the Foundation:

  • Advocates for the repeal of discriminatory laws and the implementation of transformative legal reforms.

  • Calls for increased investment in justice, including legal aid and support services for survivors.

  • Supports women’s organisations that, on the ground, accompany survivors, pursue legal action and mobilise public opinion.

  • Calls for the responsible use of technology and data to combat online violence, algorithmic bias and disinformation, and to reduce the gender digital divide.

Strengthening solidarity and collective action

CSW70 discussions underline that when laws are fair and justice works for all women and girls, society as a whole moves forward. Family law reforms carried out in several countries have already enabled hundreds of millions of women to gain greater economic resources, autonomy and agency.[1]  Women’s agency — their power to mobilise, organise and defend their rights — remains central to claiming justice and ensuring it is upheld.

At CSW70, the Fondation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici reaffirms its commitment alongside feminist movements, civil society organisations and all its partners to make access to justice a reality for all women and girls, regardless of age, country or circumstances.
