What is menstrual precariousness ?

Menstrual precariousness is defined as “the difficulties encountered by many women and girls in affording sanitary protection due to their low income“.

In reality, the cost of menstruation is broader and includes painkillers as well as the purchase of underwear and bedding. The economic difficulties encountered by the women and girls concerned are also social: refugees, prisoners, people with disabilities or students are strongly affected by this phenomenon.

However, access to sanitary protection is a fundamental right and a principle of dignity for women. Depriving them of this right can be an obstacle to their schooling, their professional life, their well-being and their health.

Faced with this phenomenon, which affects nearly 500 million people, the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation and the RAJA Group have launched a collection of sanitary pads within the company, alongside the association Règles Elémentaires.

Figures on menstrual precariousness in France

– A woman uses an average of 15,000 sanitary protections during her lifetime*.

– Worldwide, approximately 500 million women and girls do not have access to adequate sanitary facilities during their menstruation*.

– In total, nearly one woman in 10 faces menstrual insecurity in her lifetime*.

– The cost of protection and painkillers amounts to 7.50 euros per cycle for a woman with an “average” menstrual flow and duration, or nearly 3,800 euros for a lifetime*.

The collection of sanitary protection at RAJA

For one month, reusable pads, tampons and cups were collected within the Group for the association Règles Elémentaires. Many employees got involved and this operation was a real success!

4,535 sanitary pads were collected;

– This represents 226 menstrual cycles covered;

– That is to say 19 women protected for 1 year!

Règles Elémentaires was in charge of collecting the donations and transmitting them to social organizations in several regions: in Ile-de-France and in PACA!

A big bravo to all of you !
