Emergency fund: Supporting women engaged for peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

7 March 2024

Established in 2021, the emergency fund of the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation is intended to support organizations working for women whose needs are urgent and immediate. Following the Israel-Hamas war that broke out in October 2023 and led to a humanitarian crisis in the region, a grant from the emergency fund is awarded to the organizations Women Wage Peace (Israel) and Women of the Sun (Palestine).

Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun work together to spread a message of peace, strengthen ties between communities, and put an end to wars and conflicts.

Prssentation of Women Wage Peace

Founded in 2014, Women Wage Peace (WWP) is the largest grassroots movement for peace in Israel. The organization consists of 45,000 women who work towards restoring peace, building trust across divides, and ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Presentation of Women of the Sun

Established in 2021, Women of the Sun aims to reach all women in the Palestinian community in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jerusalem, and the diaspora, empowering them to take action politically and economically. The organization implements complementary actions based on the situation of women, including political leadership training, education on rights, addressing economic, political, and social barriers, among others.

Uniting to End Conflicts in the Region

These two associations, which empower women as agents of peace, are united around a common cause: establishing peace in the region and between communities.

On October 4th, before the Hamas attack, they organized a peace march in their respective countries, bringing together 1,500 activists. Subsequently, they drafted ‘The Mother’s Call‘, a petition calling for an end to conflicts, the resumption of peace talks, and respect for United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.

The support provided by the Foundation through the emergency fund aims to establish a website to widely disseminate this appeal internationally and strengthen advocacy efforts of both associations. Available in Arabic, Hebrew, and English, the website will gather maximum signatures to demand an end to conflicts in the region.
